This publication provides early access to images and basic information for documents
located and scanned within the collections of the National Archives and the Library
of Congress. It is a preview of the
Papers of Abraham Lincoln, a project of the
Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, and the
Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum. It reflects
the Papers of Abraham Lincoln’s effort to locate, scan, transcribe, annotate, and
publish electronically all documents written by or to Abraham Lincoln during his
lifetime.
This electronic publication does not contain transcriptions of the documents.
Annotated transcriptions of these documents and many more, together with attached
images and a sophisticated search engine, will be features of the Papers of Abraham
Lincoln’s forthcoming primary publication.

for an individual’s name is the best method for retrieving all documents sent by
or to that person.
